I was born in South Africa and grew up near Johannesburg. My family owned a farm near Rustenburg and my childhood was filled with adventure, travel and endless love and nurturing. Bobby, my husband and soul-mate, and I moved to Durango, Colorado in 2000 to fulfill a dream that I had of living in the United States. In that time I worked with children and families and also with Hospice while I pursued my Masters Degree in Social Work and Clinical Counseling through the University of Denver.
My love of painting started at an early age and I have spent most of my adult life teaching myself the intricacies of watercolor painting. For me the process is the adventure and the final result is often the culmination of many hours of painting, meditating and reflection. I have never felt the need to sell my paintings, although many friends around the world do have some of my paintings in their homes. I consider it an honor that someone else would want to own my work.
It is my wish that each piece would embrace the viewer and draw them into a moment of quiet reflection and wonder for this Creation of ours.
As I paint I am in awe of the abundance of nature, the light, the atmosphere and the intricacies of pattern. Each painting adventure teaches me something about myself and I endeavor to share my philosophy of life through my art classes. For me, art is a therapeutic journey. It is a time when I feel most complete, fulfilled and whole. I am able to lose myself in the process of creation and that, to me, is prayer and meditation.
Art is a therapeutic journey and I have found many parallels in the process. It is a privilege to be able to work through the Creative Consciousness of art and help others to see their life journey as a Work of Art. So many of our struggles can be paralleled in the creative process and the willingness to let go with the struggle and allow for the creative adventure to unfold, is part of that therapeutic lesson.
And .... sometimes a really good painting emerges in the process - that is still a wonder and delight to me.
